Graduate scheme

£25,000 - £30,000

Get Into Teaching is free service that aims to support those considering teaching as a career; setting you up to embark on the most rewarding career you’ll ever have.

Why become a teacher?

Quite simply – teaching offers you the chance to shape lives, bringing everything you’ve learnt – your life experiences and your love for your subject – to the classroom.

To add to that, you’ll start on an increasingly competitive salary of at least £30,000, or more in London. With teaching, your career can also progress rapidly – you can become a subject lead or head of key stage mastering your area of expertise, whilst being paid for those extra responsibilities.

Teaching also offers a generous pension scheme, making it a career that is both exciting and secure. And when talking about exciting – you’ll receive a generous holiday package, allowing you to do more of what you love.

What we are looking for

We are looking for passionate, ambitious graduates that want to make their degree, knowledge and skills really count. You’ll be committed to ensuring all pupils have the chance to realise their potential in a subject, whilst shaping and developing your own career, too.

Once you have a degree or equivalent qualification you’re ready for postgraduate primary or secondary initial teacher training courses.

You also need the following GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, or equivalent qualifications:

  • English
  • maths
  • science if you want to teach primary

You may be able to show you meet the standard in another way if you do not have GCSEs.

Training and development

You can apply to teacher training courses across England. The courses can either be led by universities, or directly by a school or group of schools themselves. Whichever route you choose, your training will largely consist of the same amount of theory-based work, and classroom experience.

International Candidates

We’re committed to welcoming international candidates. Depending on immigration status, you may get support in the way of funding from the UK government for training. Visas are also available to candidates from all over the world, both to train and to teach.
