UKRI Microelectronics Centre

Based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, the UKRI Microelectronics Centre is dedicated to stimulating and supporting the use of complex engineering software and supports a large international customer base. We have an opportunity for you to join a small team of highly experienced engineers and system developers, where you will contribute to development of systems to automate processes including secure customer web interfaces, data management and back-end visualisation systems.

Summary of Key Duties & Responsibilities

This challenging role will provide broad experience of developing secure on-line systems for customer support and also systems for complex reporting and visualisation of data by management.

You will develop enhancements to existing web-based systems that provide customer portals for access to various technologies and also systems that allow semi-autonomous submission of requests for access to additional technologies. Security of data is fundamental and all systems are developed with rigorous procedures requiring meticulous attention to detail in secure coding processes.

You will gain wide experience of development of online systems utilising dynamic webpages across multiple platforms, close coupled databases and security controlled file systems. Opportunity for development of enhancements to User Interfaces (both external customer and internal management) will also be gained.

Essential:         

  • At university, enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and required or have requested to take a year out of studies to gain experience within industry (S)
  • Right to live and work in the UK (S)
  • Studying relevant degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar with degree content relevant to the vacancy (S)
  • Proven ability in software development (S&I)
  • Good understanding of HTML and CSS (S&I)
  • Appreciation of the principles web design and dynamic served content (S&I)
  • Solid grasp of modern online system security principles (I)
  • Understanding of how data may be mapped to database architectures (I)
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal (in English) (S&I)
  • Demonstrate good team working capabilities. (I)

Desirable:

  • Experience of Linux systems (S&I)
  • Experience server side scripting e.g. Coldfusion, JavaScript etc. (S&I)
  • Appreciation of how to develop good user interfaces (S&I)
  • Knowledge of SQL. (S&I)
