I have graduated with a BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture from the University of Westminster; and I am currently working as a Technical Graduate at Berkeley Homes East Thames at the Royal Arsenal Riverside Development in Woolwich, London.

I have been fascinated by the relationship between the built environment and people since a young age, and found it amazing how architecture can impact people’s lives. Therefore it was not a question that I would like to study architecture at university.

During my studies I was mainly focusing on the refurbishment and conversion of listed buildings as well as domestic architecture, and after graduation I continued to work on small scale residential projects at an architecture firm in East London. Thanks to the great exposure at the practice, I realised that my main passion does not lie in designing but more in the technical and operational side of architecture.

This is when I started to look more into the construction and development side of the business and came across the Berkeley’s Graduate Scheme. I was amazed by Berkeley’s approach to creating places, giving back to the community and the quality of their homes.

The Graduate Scheme provides insight into how the company operates and how the different departments are connected and rely on each other to deliver the final product. The rotation through different departments offers a great opportunity to get to know a lot of people within the Berkeley Group, which is immensely important and helps in your job day in, day out.

Depending on the stage of the project, you are faced with new challenges on a daily basis. It might be a question from the site team or a technical risk you have to mitigate with the consultants, as a Technical Graduate you have to be organised, good at multitasking and have a great attention to detail.

Asking questions and listening are crucial when you start your career here. The team is very welcoming and supportive. You learn so much within a very short period of time without even realising it. You are surrounded by highly knowledgeable people, and you can always find someone who can help.

If you are passionate, would like to create places that prosper, and you are willing to work hard for it, then Berkeley is the place for you. The reward of seeing your work taking shape in front of your eyes and becoming an important place in people’s life is just amazing.
