Kubrick’s training offering is totally unique and extremely valuable in the world of data and technology, but on top of that Kubrick’s client list includes some exciting names with really interesting journeys in the data sector. All this, coupled with Kubrick’s involvement with Women in Data and the supportive atmosphere, really drove my ambition to join the team.

Before joining Kubrick, I was studying for my degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath. In the final year of my degree, I worked on a project designing a product to assist the elderly in taking their medication on time, where I had my first experience with python for the programmatic aspects of this design.

After finishing my degree, I knew I wanted a career where I could creatively solve problems and continue to learn and challenge myself. With these criteria in mind, I found myself drawn to the Data Engineering practice at Kubrick. I was particularly enthused by the training content including Python and Machine Learning, as following my brief encounter with coding at university I had really craved the chance to learn more. Kubrick’s training offering is totally unique and extremely valuable in the world of data and technology, but on top of that Kubrick’s client list includes some exciting names with really interesting journeys in the data sector. In my day to day work it is easy to see the direct positive impact of utilising data to gain intelligent insights on the company’s performance. There is such a vast wealth of data to learn from at my client and so many different ways it can be used to drive business decisions and answer the big questions posed by stakeholders. Making use of cloud services such as AWS to streamline the delivery of this data to analysts is extremely rewarding. I really enjoy working on a solution for a data pipeline, from scoping out the requirements and infrastructure required, to developing the code our applications will run to process the data in the most efficient way. Seeing the time savings incurred by running our jobs on cloud-based applications is really exciting, we have the potential to automate so many of our processes and it is incredibly satisfying to reduce a time-consuming task to one that requires minimal effort and input and is accessible to the intended user.

The culture at Kubrick really fosters personal development and growth, as well as providing opportunities for collaboration and supportive mentoring. Since being on client site I have felt incredibly supported and comfortable to reach out at any time, which says a lot for the friendly atmosphere at Kubrick. Kubrick have been committed to helping us achieve our goals and become highly equipped to work in the world of data through hard work and the help of brilliant trainers

I think it is easy to be intimidated by the world of data and technology. From the outside it seems like everyone is a computer genius or at least studied a computer science degree and with so many coding languages and programmes out there it seems hard to keep up. I would urge people not to dismiss data because they may feel out of their depth or the challenge seems too steep. I have learnt that every day is a school day and no one, even the computer genius, knows everything. The world of tech has a great ethos for encouraging development and learning as you go, so that before you know it you have amassed a great deal of expertise and confidence.
