Subsea and Pipeline Engineering

This course is for graduates in naval architecture, offshore engineering, mechanical engineering and related disciplines who want to gain advanced knowledge of subsea systems, designs and installation. This includes systems and equipment such as: pipeline; wellheads; drilling rigs; riser and mooring systems.

Entry requirements


BEng with First, or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours or equivalent overseas qualification.


Applicants with marginally lower qualifications will be considered for the Postgraduate Diploma in the first instance. Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Course modules

Instructional modules: Offshore engineering practice; risers and mooring lines; subsurface technology; marine pipelines; maritime safety and risk; subsea systems and installation; dynamics of floating offshore installations; marine pipeline integrity.

Assessment methods

There are two types of method for module assessment. One is course work assessment only, the other is examination assessment. For examined modules the final assessment mark consists of 30 to 40 per cent course work and 60 to 70 per cent examination.


The course fees for Scottish and EU students are £5,500. For students from the rest of the UK, course fees are £9,000. Course fees for international students are £18,000.
