The course is taught through a mixture of face-to-face sessions at the London Road campus with online tutorial support. The sessions will take place over three days in the autumn half term, two days in the spring half term and a tutorial at the end of the Easter holiday.
You will complete two assignments. One will address a whole-school issue (such as behaviour or inclusion). The other will involve an action research project designed to develop an aspect of your work in the classroom.
You are normally required to have a good undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent from a university outside the UK). If you have other qualifications and a number of years' relevant work experience then you may also be eligible to apply.
Apart from the standard University entry requirements, students either need to have achieved Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) already and be working in a school, or else be enrolled on a course leading to QTS.
Students undertaking the Primary Postgraduate Certificate in Education must take: Special Study; Professional Studies: the Reflective Practitioner. Students undertaking the Secondary Postgraduate Certificate in Education must take: The reflective teacher; Investigating Practice.
These course fees cover the cost of your tuition. Some courses will require additional payments for field trips and extra resources. You will also need to budget for your accommodation and living costs.
