The inclusion and achievement of students with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) within mainstream education is an important current focus within educational policy. By acquiring specialist teaching and assessment skills, you'll broaden your career opportunities within and beyond the school and college context.

The MA in SpLD/ Dyslexia encompasses modules which integrate theory and practice in relation to SpLD/ dyslexia and inclusion. You'll study through workshops, case studies and assignments, justifying your professional practice through research. Modules comprise taught sessions and assessed projects, and can be completed full-time in one year or part-time in up to five years.

This academic qualification alongside your vocational training course will enhance your CV and job opportunities in a highly competitive field. It will also provide Continuing Professional Development (CPD) specific to your professional needs and requirements.

Entry requirements

Applicants (with the exception of speech and language therapists and psychologists) should have a 1st degree in education or linked pedagogy and, ideally, 2 years of teaching experience. If the applicant already has recognised SpLD/Dyslexia qualification at ATS level, they can apply to use this prior qualification to gain entry to the Assessment Methodology module as Accreditation for Prior Learning (APL) towards the Master's or PG Dip in SpLD/Dyslexia, as well as using this to top up their BDA qualification to AMBDA level.

Course modules

Modules include: identifying and supporting learners with SpLD/dyslexia; assessment methodology for SpLD/dyslexia; identifying and overcoming maths difficulties; SpLD/dyslexia (the effective assessment report); action enquiry/independent study.

Assessment methods

Each module is assessed by coursework.
