Business Innovation with E-Business

Technological change and the digital economy raise new economic and managerial challenges for businesses and public and private sector organisations. Birkbeck is a centre for excellence in research and inspirational teaching in business innovation.

This postgraduate degree in business innovation is designed for graduates who wish to develop a thorough understanding of the importance of innovation for rethinking management, business strategy, corporate assets, intellectual property rights, institutions, organisations, firms, entrepreneurship and globalisation in a changing world.

Based in the School of Business, Economics and Informatics, the Department of Management is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in teaching, research and consultancy in the broad field of management. Our academic staff are active researchers as well as enthusiastic teachers, and regularly publish cutting-edge articles in the world's leading journals.

We have particular research strengths in international business and strategy, the management of innovation and entrepreneurship, human resource management, corporate governance, sport management and marketing, as well as financial management and accounting.

We offer students of all ages and backgrounds a chance to study either part-time or full-time in our department and to gain an internationally recognised University of London qualification.

The programme is also offered with specialisation in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management or International Technology Management.

Entry requirements

Normally at least a second-class honours degree in any subject area from a UK university or a non-UK equivalent. A professional or other qualification obtained by written examinations approved by the College.

Relevant experience, supporting statements and references may be taken into consideration, especially in the case of non-standard applications. If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English: IELTS Academic Test score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.

Course modules

You complete 9 taught modules (totalling 120 credits) and write a 12,000-word dissertation (worth 60 credits).

You take 6 compulsory modules, and choose 1 module from the list of option modules and 2 from the range of management postgraduate modules (or from other departments, subject to approval).

Principles of Organization and Management;
Research Methods in Management I .

Entrepreneurial Finance;
Entrepreneurship and Innovation;

Innovation Systems: Networks and Social Capital;
Innovation: Management and Policy .

Assessment methods

A combination of examinations, coursework and a 12,000-word dissertation.
