Economic and Financial Analysis

The course aims to provide industry-ready professionals equipped with the skills needed for success in a variety of banking, finance, analysis, government and regional development careers.

You will be taught critical knowledge for Economic and Financial Analyst careers, and have extended opportunities to develop highly valued skills using industry-standard software (Bloomberg and Stata) in your analysis of real data to answer your own research questions.

All this will be done in a challenging and thought-provoking manner, which questions the traditional assumptions underlying many mainstream models of societies and economies to arrive at more useful perspectives.

Following this course, you would have the ability to assess a new financial product or innovation in terms of its likely success or failure, and its overall effect on the financial system.

You may also have the opportunity to participate in:
- Industry visits to real companies

- Short-term internships with local employers

- Foreign language learning with Uni-wide Language

This course is aimed at graduates who may have studied economics, finance or business-related degrees at undergraduate level. It is also suitable for those not holding a degree but who possess relevant professional qualifications or experience.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed through research orientated coursework rather than the traditional mix of exams and coursework which do not allow you to focus on your interests.

Research and academic skills underpin the successful completion of your taught units and dissertation/research project.
