Business and Management

*** Manchester Metropolitan University has been undertaking a review of the long-term future of academic provision at its Cheshire campus. It has now been confirmed that the University will withdraw from the Cheshire campus. This means that we expect the campus to close in the summer of 2019. As the withdrawal from the campus will be a phased process we are still pleased to receive applications for one year full time postgraduate taught courses starting in 2017 on the Cheshire campus. We also continue to welcome applications for part time postgraduate courses of two years in duration in the Exercise and Sport Science department starting in 2017. Applications for courses that are expected to take longer than two years to complete are currently on hold. *** Please visit our website for the latest information on the review: www.cheshire.mmu.ac.uk/campusreview

A major aim of research in business and management is to facilitate a greater understanding of a variety of organisational phenomena and empower business leaders and individuals to make challenging decisions, solve complex problems and implement operational and strategic change more efficiently and effectively. To support its research degree provision, the Department runs the Doctoral Research Training Programme, which is compulsory for all new students. Each element of the Programme is designed to introduce and orient students to the PhD journey and prepare them for the registration process.

Academics have a multidisciplinary range of qualifications, skills and expertise that have been gained in the worlds of academia and business. The Department thus welcomes applications from individuals interested in researching topics such as: Brand strategy and marketing communications, Employee engagement, Human resource management and development, International marketing and consumer behaviour, Knowledge management and knowledge sharing, Lean thinking and organisational performance, New product development, Strategic change and cultural change, Strategic management, and Strategic thinking and leadership.
