Graduate Diploma in Law
This course is for non law graduates interested in becoming a solicitor or barrister, this is the stepping stone to the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course and a career as a solicitor or barrister thereafter; the course is approved by the Law Society and Bar Standards Board; lectures and tutorials are designed to encourage interactive learning, where students learn in small groups.
Undergraduate degree (2.2 or above). Applicants should ensure that their referee provides a full reference in support of their application. International and EU students also need to meet the English language requirements. Applicants without formal qualifications may be eligible subject to approval of their qualifications by the Solicitors Regulation Authority/Bar Standards Board. Applications are assessed on an individual basis, taking into account any formal or professional qualifications, the personal statement, references, and any relevant life/work experience. It is a programme requirement that students have access to the internet and are information technology literate. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5 with minimum of 5.5 in each component.
Modules include: contract; tort; land; equity and trusts; criminal and police powers; constitutional and administrative law; EU law; extended essay.
Each subject is assessed individually, by coursework in 3 subjects (throughout the year) and an exam (at the end of the year).
