English Language Teaching

This course has been designed for experienced English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) teachers, also referred to as TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) who wish to enhance their professional development and career prospects. The course will include both theoretical and practical aspects of English language teaching. You'll develop your in-depth knowledge and understanding of the links between teaching, academic research and theories of language learning and teaching. This is an excellent opportunity to gain advanced training and skills for English language teaching, course design, materials development and assessment. This course has a high profile of international course participants which brings a diverse range of socio-cultural perspectives regarding teaching and learning together.

Entry requirements

A good UK Honours degree (minimum 2.2) or equivalent and 2 years' full-time English language teaching / TESOL experience (or equivalent). Alternatively, 5 years' English language teaching / TESOL experience without a degree (non-graduates). Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component or equivalent.

Course modules

Core: Theory and Practice in Language Teaching, Analysing Language in Use, Course Design and Assessment, Research Methods and Dissertation. Optional: Blended Learning and CALL: Multimedia Applications in Language Learning; English for Professional Purposes; Materials development; Teacher education; Teaching English to young learners; Teaching speaking, listening; Teaching reading and writing; English for academic purpose; and Intercultural Communication.
