Professional Engineering

This course with the Engineering Council as part of the Engineering Gateways programme will help students to gain Chartered Engineer (CEng) status if they are working in the engineering profession. It is a work based route to the academic qualification and professional development that students need to demonstrate for registration as a CEng. Students will be able to acquire professional competencies and an MSc without taking time off work. Because the course is flexible, it can be adapted to almost any work situation, engineering industry, or location.

Entry requirements

Good Honours degree (2.1 or above) in an engineering discipline; or industrial experience; a minimum of 2 years' relevant industrial or engineering experience. Applicants may also be able to incorporate prior certificated learning at an equivalent level which has not already contributed towards any other award.

Course modules

Modules include: research methods: application and evaluation; negotiated advanced technical module; negotiated module (environmental and ethical responsibility); CPD and strategic management; negotiated module (commercial and technical leadership); negotiated module (innovation in technology); negotiated module (solving engineering problems); independent scholarship.

Assessment methods

Research project.

Fees

You will need to gain 180 credits in total to complete the full MA or MSc. If you are studying part time you will normally complete your studies over two or three years, depending on the course structure.
