Strategic Engineering Management

This course is academically rigorous, completely related to practice and specially designed to enable engineering graduates and other professionals with engineering background to pursue careers in management positions within engineering and manufacturing sectors. On completion of this course, students will be equipped with a wide range of modern engineering and operations management tools and techniques required to manage 21st-century engineering and manufacturing organisations. This course also provides flexibility in module choice with opportunities for technical and management advancement through a choice of optional modules in specialist areas which will enable students to contribute effectively in developing company capabilities and improving performance. Students will study through a variety of teaching methods, which include real case studies, work-based learning, research-based learning, laboratories, guest lectures, individual and group project works and interactive online materials.

Entry requirements

An appropriate engineering or science degree (2.2 or above), an equivalent professional qualification or significant industrial and professional experience. Applicants whose 1st language is not English will need to hold IELTS 6.5 or above.

Course modules

Core and optional modules: research methods: application and evaluation; operations and supply chain management; advanced manufacturing engineering; enterprise systems and project management; negotiated module: solving engineering management problems; continuing professional development and strategic management; driving change through business excellence; manufacturing systems optimisation and simulation; independent scholarship.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods used include individual coursework, formal examinations, group-based reports and presentations.


You will need to gain 180 credits in total to complete the full MA or MSc. If you are studying part time you will normally complete your studies over two or three years, depending on the course structure.
