- MA Education: Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Entry requirements

You will usually need to have either: 

  • a good undergraduate degree (2:2 or above) or an equivalent level 6 qualification (Equivalent overseas qualifications which will be verified by NARIC)
  • be currently working within the education arena.


  • Level 5 teaching qualification plus evidence of five years’ teaching experience within an institution may be considered
  • be currently working within the education arena.

You will be asked to provide a CV/resume detailing your academic and work experience. The Admissions Tutor reserves the right to interview an individual to ascertain the relevance of their work and life experiences as an acceptable entry for the programme.

In addition, we recognise the following qualifications:

  • Full DELTA (Cambridge Diploma in TESOL) Modules 1, 2 and 3 are normally eligible for 60 credits at Level 7 against our MA Education.

English language qualifications

You will normally need one of the following English Language qualifications:

  • GCE O level English Language: Grade C
  • GCSE English: Grade C

If English is not your first language you will need an English language qualification. For this course you will need at least one of the following:

  • IELTS 6.0*
  • TOEFL 550 (paper based) 213 (computer based) or 80 (internet based)
  • Pearson Test of Academic English: 51
  • Cambridge Advanced Certificate: Pass
  • London Tests of English: we accept level 5 for postgraduate courses
  • International GCE O Level English Language: Grade C
  • International GCSE English/English as a Second Language: Grade C.*

*If you have a minimum of IELTS level 4.5 you can study our Certificate of Credit in English for Academic Purposes which we will accept as evidence that you are able to perform at a suitable level of IELTS 6.0.  We will also accept the Certificate of Credit as evidence that you can perform at GCSE level.

Course modules

Early Years; Leadership and Management; Leadership Coaching and Mentoring; Lifelong Learning; Primary Mathematics; Special Educational Needs and Disability; Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Assessment methods

Assessment is through a variety of coursework assignments including essays, presentations and portfolios.


Flexible payment plans available – choose from three options:

  • Pay only for the modules you are studying
  • Pay your full course fees upfront, receive 5% discount and avoid annual increases
  • Pay for all modules studied in the year and receive a 5% discount (September enrolment only)

Please note that fees are subject to annual increase in September 2017.
