Applied Petroleum Geoscience

The petroleum industry is evolving at a rapid rate, with techniques to find and use resources becoming more advanced to meet a global demand. Our comprehensive course combines academic and practical teaching to prepare you for, or further, your career in the petroleum industry. Our teaching team all have extensive experience and will give you a real insight into the oil industry. Teaching takes place in the classroom and in the field. You'll also put theory into practice with fieldwork in various parts of the UK, including logging core at the British Geological Survey. To further support your professional experience, we also introduce you to the specialist professional software packages on which the oil industry now depends for its analytical work. We prepare you for entry-level jobs in the petroleum industry; your first position could be in a service company supporting the oil industry in areas such as basic reservoir analysis, mudlogging, data management, or data gathering and analysis.
Modules may include: petroleum geology; petroleum techniques; geological and commercial risk; advanced petroleum geology; subsurface analysis; basin analysis; independent project.
Assessment includes written coursework, presentations and timed essays.
