University of Dundee
Named ‘Scotland’s coolest city’ by the Wall Street Journal, Dundee is the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design, and has one of the highest proportions of young people in full-time higher education across the UK – at around 1-in-7 of the population. The city sits on the banks of the River Tay, offering stunning sunset views and a lively cultural atmosphere, with our city-centre campus at its heart – just five minutes’ walk from the waterfront, as well as the city’s numerous restaurants, bars, cafes, museums, cinema and theatre.
We’re one of the UK’s top 30 universities (The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019), as well as top in Scotland and sixth in the UK for graduate prospects (Complete University Guide 2019). Most of all, it’s Dundee’s unique atmosphere and character that what really makes us stand out.
We have approximately 5,000 postgraduate students with us, who enjoy a challenging and rewarding study environment, as well as on-campus access to the expertise and guidance of our academic staff. With an expansive range of postgraduate degrees to choose from, many of our courses are constantly evolving in response to the most current developments, theories, and problems of the 21st century. Many of these courses are also available to study on a part-time or a full-time basis.
Some of the areas of study that we cover include: Anatomy, Architecture, Art & Design, Business, Computing, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Environment, Humanities and Politics, Law, Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Psychology.
Researchers at Dundee have made, and continues to make, a profound international impact. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2014), 76% of our research was rated as world-leading, and we were also ranked top in the United Kingdom for Biological Sciences. As well as this, the CWTS Leiden Rankings 2018 placed us at 16th in the world in terms of the proportion of our published scientific research ranking in the top 1 per cent in the field, and the Nature Index 2017 Innovation supplement found us to be best in the UK at influencing innovation.
Much of our research is related to our vision of transforming lives both locally and globally, from new drugs to treat cancer and diabetes, to the development of environmentally-friendly concrete, and the resolving of transnational disputes over water supplies. As a student at Dundee you will be part of a diverse and talented community of academics, who have had a lasting legacy on global research and development.
Our city-centre campus is just a few minutes’ walk from a wide selection of quirky cocktail bars, local restaurants, museums, and independent retailers – as well as a bustling shopping centre, cinema, and theatre. On the campus itself you can find top-class sports and gym facilities, as well as Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) – a central hub for our students, which also offers a shop, swimming pool, bars, clubs, and food.
Dundee’s main library gives you long opening hours (open until 2:30am in semester time and 24 hours a day during exams) as well as a café to keep you going through those study sessions. Recently refurbished and upgraded, it offers everything you would expect from a modern university library, plus relaxation areas, group study rooms with the latest technology, and flexible, creative spaces.
We also offer a wide range of services to support our students, including academic, personal, or financial support and guidance. For example, our Careers Service will help with your career even beyond graduation, whether you are a current student or a graduate seeking placement, part-time work, or a full-time graduate-level position.
