This course is designed to provide a flexible educational experience that enables law graduates, non-law graduates and lawyers to develop their specialist legal interests at postgraduate level. A second-class honours degree or equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 with no component score below 6.0.
Year 1: English legal systems; contract law; criminal law; law and society; public law; art of persuasion. Year 2: Core modules: Law of evidence; land law; law of tort; research and professional development. Optional modules: Family and child law; employment law; elements of commercial and consumer law; intellectual property law. Year 3: Core modules: Equity and trusts; EU law; discrimination and human rights. Optional modules: Company law; family and child law; intellectual property law; CILEx level 6 practice papers; evidence and advocacy; public international law.
You will be expected to attend eight hours of class time per week if you are on the full-time course whereas for the part-time course you attend approximately four hours per week. You will be encouraged to undertake independent study with time also devoted to group problem solving, discussion and debate.
The majority of the units will be assessed via exams, however much of your time will also be spent researching and writing your dissertation which concentrates on a topic of your choice.
