Education and Childhood Studies

The School of Education and Childhood Studies (SECS) offers a research degrees programme developed in partnership with schools and colleges, thus ensuring that we meet and exceed all requirements for professional and classroom relevance; the researchers are also involved in a wide range of consultancy and funded knowledge transfer activities; current research projects include work with Portsmouth, Southampton and Hampshire county councils and the training and development agency.

Entry requirements

A good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or a master's degree in an appropriate subject. Exceptionally, equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications will be considered. All applicants are subject to face-to-face or telephone interview.
English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 with no component score below 6.0.

Course modules

All modules: Teaching and learning processes; special educational needs; post 16 education and training; curriculum provision in secondary and post-compulsory education; aspects of initial teacher training (ITT); education management; early years provision.
