University of Reading
Applied Meteorology and Climate with Management
Combine the study of atmospheric physics, analysis of meteorological and climate data (from observations and models), and forecasting with management modules at our triple-accredited Henley Business School.
You will develop your skills in forecasting, weather analysis and statistics, and learn how to interrogate cutting-edge research. Modules in management will teach you how to effectively manage and lead people within organisations. This comprehensive joint approach will prepare you for managerial roles within a wide range of organisations.
You will join a world-class department that is renowned for its internationally leading research in all aspects of weather and climate science. In the latest Research Excellence Framework, 86% of our research was graded as world leading or internationally excellent.
You will benefit from small class sizes as a result of our excellent staff-to-student ratio (about 1:1) at master's level. We run weekly weather and climate discussions, which incorporate our own real-time meteorological data. You may also be able to use this data in your own work
You will have the opportunity to work on a research project in collaboration with one of our industrial partners. This is a great way to apply what you learn to industry and deepen your understanding of the natural world.
Our Department is home to five Fellows of the Royal Society, as well as climate experts who contribute to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). This means you will be taught by academics who are leaders in their fields, and who draw on their research experience to give you unique scientific perspectives into the environmental issues that affect our world.
All of our master's courses are approved by the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) as appropriate academic training for meteorologists seeking the qualifications of Chartered Meteorologist (CMet) or Registered Meteorologist (RMet). Successful MSc holders can apply for election to Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society (FRMetS).
As one of our graduates, you will be well placed to pursue a scientific career in weather forecasting and meteorological research. In recent years, our students have been recruited by AIR, Arup, FUGRO GEOS, MeteoGroup, RMS and the UK Met Office. Others pursue careers associated with diverse aspects of environmental measurement, risk management and policy development.
