Finance and Accounting

This course brings together theoretical and applied expertise in finance and accounting practices. You'll gain a good understanding of the basics of financial statement analysis, corporate governance and international finance as well as the quantitative and analytical skills essential for developing fundamental problem-solving skills.

You can apply to base your dissertation on project work with an external organisation. Recent projects include group nominal structure for a multinational engineering firm, and developing a funding strategy for a Sheffield-based capital investment programme.

Course modules

Core modules: quantitative skills for finance and accounting; corporate finance; research methods for finance and accounting; corporate governance; quantitative methods for finance and accounting; dissertation. Optional modules: 2 of the following: management accounting; financial accounting and financial statement analysis. 3/4 of the following: risk and uncertainty; performance management; international financial reporting; issues in finance; international finance; financial markets and investment management; emerging market finance; international corporate governance.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include: individual assignments, group projects, end-of-semester examinations and a dissertation.
