Race Car Aerodynamics
Our unique MSc in Race Car Aerodynamics is suitable for graduates from engineering, scientific and mathematical backgrounds who want to specialise in aerodynamics for high-speed vehicles. In this course, we will teach you the fundamentals of aerodynamics and you will focus on the analysis, modelling and measurement of turbulent flows associated with high-performance race cars.
MSc: Upper second class honours degree (2:1 or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Sciences or a related subject; please note that this specialist course recruits a small number of students who must have a specific background at first degree level in fluid dynamics/ aerodynamics.
Compulsory modules include: Applications of CFD; Experimental Methods for Aerodynamics; Race Car Aerodynamics; Race Car Design/GDP; Turbulence: Physics and Modelling; MSc Research Project.
Optional modules include: two from: Advanced Computational Methods I; Numerical Methods; Advanced Computational Methods II; Aeroelasticity; Automobile Systems; Automotive Propulsion; Design, Search and Optimisation; Flow Control; Systems Reliability; Wing Aerodynamics.
To include unseen written examinations and assessed coursework in the form of problem solving exercises, laboratory reports, design exercises, essays, and individual and group projects. Experimental, research and design skills are assessed through laboratory reports, coursework exercises and oral presentations.
