Marine Engineering

This programme allows graduate engineers or those from related disciplines to specialise in, or convert to, marine engineering. Marine engineering involves the systems and equipment onboard marine vehicles including: design; construction; installation; support. There's a particular emphasis on propulsion and control systems.

Entry requirements

BEng with First, or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours or equivalent overseas qualification.
Applicants with marginally lower qualifications will be considered for the Postgraduate Diploma in the first instance. Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Course modules

Instructional modules: Advanced marine engineering; marine engineering simulation and modelling; inspection and survey; maritime safety and risk; onboard energy management and marine environment protection; systems availability and maintenance; marine transport and economics.

Elective modules: Information management; risk management; financial engineering; design management; project management.

Assessment methods

There are two types of method for module assessment. One is course work assessment only, the other is exam assessment. For examined modules the final assessment mark consists of 30-40 per cent course work marks and 60-70 per cent exam marks.

Fees

Course fees for Scottish and EU students are £5,500. For students from the rest of the UK, course fees are £9,000. Course fees for international students are £18,000.
