Ship and Offshore Technology
This programme is designed for graduate engineers in naval architecture, offshore engineering, mechanical engineering and other related disciplines who wish to acquire advanced knowledge in a broad range of subjects of ship and offshore technologies.
BEng degree with First Class Honours, or equivalent overseas qualification, in a marine or marine-related engineering subject. It is essential to have sufficient knowledge on structural mechanics, hydrostatics, fluid dynamics, ship resistance and propulsion, ship design, etc.
Modules: Offshore engineering practice; risers and mooring lines; marine pipelines; dynamics of floating offshore installations; maritime safety and risk; design and construction of floating, production storage and offloading vessels; theory and practice of marine computational fluid dynamics (CFD); inspection and survey; group project; research project.
Assessment is through written examinations, coursework assignments and an individual project thesis. There are teamwork exercises assessed on a continuous basis.
As MSc Ship & Offshore Technology is a two-year joint course in conjunction with Hamburg University of Technology, fees are taken in two instalments, 50% at the beginning of Year 1 and 50% at the beginning of Year 2.
