Advanced Mechanical Engineering with Aerospace
This course has been developed to provide high-calibre mechanical engineering graduates with an in-depth technical understanding of advanced mechanical engineering topics together with generic skills that will allow them to contribute effectively post graduation. The course helps you to become a specialist in the area of aerospace. You'll also have the opportunity to take modules in general skills such as project management and risk analysis. These are necessary skills for any professional aerospace engineer.
Degree in engineering or physical sciences or equivalent professional qualification. Preferably a first a second class honours degree, equivalent to a UK 2:1 degree. A 2:2 may be considered with relevant industrial experience.
Compulsory modules: Aerodynamic performance; aerodynamic propulsion systems; spaceflight mechanics.
Optional modules: Engineering composites; pressurised systems; systems engineering 1; systems engineering 2; machine dynamics; machinery diagnosis and condition monitoring; mathematical modelling in engineering science; advanced topics in fluid systems engineering; spaceflight systems; polymer and polymer composites; advanced boiler technologies 1; advanced boiler technologies 2; materials for power plant; gas and steam turbines; energy resources and policy; electrical power systems; energy modelling and monitoring; industrial metallurgy.
Generic modules: Design management; information management; project management; risk management; financial engineering; sustainability; knowledge engineering and management for engineers; environmental impact assessment.
Assessment is by written assignments, exams and the individual project.
Course fees for Scottish and EU students are £5,500. For students from the rest of the UK, course fees are £9,000. Course fees for international students are £18,000.
