Electronic and Electrical Engineering

This course is specifically designed for students who wish to pursue advanced studies across the broad range of subjects relevant to electronic and electrical engineering.

You can select classes from the extensive range of postgraduate taught courses delivered by our Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. This flexible structure allows you to build a personalised MSc programme that meets your academic interests and career aspirations.

Entry requirements

A first or good second-class UK Honours degree or equivalent overseas qualification in electronic, electrical or communications engineering, or a related subject from a recognised academic institution.

Candidates whose first language is not English or who have not undertaken their undergraduate course in the UK must possess a recent UKBA-recognised English qualification.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Assignment and professional studies.

Elective modules: Power electronics, machines and applications; power system design, operation and protection; digital signal processing principles; information transmission and security; communication networks; control principles; advanced power system analysis and protection; high voltage technology and electromagnetic compatibility; power electronics for energy and drive control; power system economics, markets and asset management; wind energy and distributed energy resources; advanced digital signal processing principles; embedded systems design; image and video processing; control techniques; software engineering.

Summer (June to September): Research project / internship.

Assessment methods

A variety of assessment techniques are used throughout the course. You'll complete at least six modules. Each module has a combination of written assignments, individual and group reports, oral presentations, practical lab work and, where appropriate, an end-of-term exam.

Fees

Course fees for Scottish and EU students are £5,500. For students from the rest of the UK, course fees are £9,000. Course fees for international students are £18,000.
