Mediation and Conflict Resolution

This programme provides a thorough, practical and exciting introduction to this developing area. It is rigorous and multi-disciplinary, exposing you to a wide range of approaches as well as being taught by experts from across the UK. The skills of conflict resolution are crucial in contemporary life. Professionals in business, public bodies and the law are increasingly expected to act in a collaborative way and to resolve disputes without the delay and expense of litigation. Mediation is fast becoming a core skill. For those working in international settings the core modules can be combined with other classes such as International Human Rights Law to provide the foundation for work with charities and non-governmental organisations committed to conflict resolution.

Entry requirements

A pass degree and/or relevant professional experience. If English is not the 1st language students should provide evidence of English language proficiency before they can begin the course. Programmes require IELTS 6.5 with no score below 6.0. Must be valid for 2 years.

Course modules

Compulsory classes: Theory and Principles of Conflict Resolution; Mediation in Practice; Legal Research; Dissertation. Elective classes: Mediation, the Law and Policy; Conflict Resolution and the State; Negotiation; Employment Mediation; Legal Process and the Law of Contract and other Obligations.

Assessment methods
