Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology
With an emphasis on the application of knowledge and skills to real-world challenges, the course is designed for graduates looking to prepare themselves for a career in the biotechnology field, as well as for those in relevant employment. Students gain experience of applying up-to-date scientific knowledge in these areas to industrial situations and the analysis of environmental problems.
A good Honours degree or equivalent in a bioscience subject, although substantial professional experience can substitute for graduate status. Students should also have a good standard of written and spoken English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent). If the applicants is currently employed, the University requests a statement of support from employers.
Modules include: fermentation biotechnology; molecular genetics and genomics; bioremediation; DNA data mining; food production and deterioration; masters laboratory techniques; microbial biotechnology; research methods; research project.
