Manchester Law School is one of the UK’s largest legal education providers with a long history of providing top class legal training at the heart of the UK’s second largest legal hub. Manchester Law School has developed an excellent reputation as a forward-thinking provider of high quality postgraduate legal training and has extensive links to the Northern Circuit. Our postgraduate programmes range from law conversion (GDL) and specialist professional training (LPC, BPTC) to engaging research degrees (LLM, MPhil, PhD). Our programmes are available on a full and part-time basis and have been created in consultation with local legal practices and professional bodies to reflect the most up to date requirements in the legal profession. We allow our students to think and behave like legal professionals from the outset through simulating realistic legal practice scenarios.
Teaching by Professionals
Our teaching team of over 70 permanent staff consists of highly experienced professionals including practising solicitors and barristers, research academics and legal scholars. Some members of our team even sit as Judges and Tribunal Chairs. This ensures that our postgraduate teaching is professionally relevant and informed by the latest practical developments.
Underpinned by a network of research-active academics, Manchester Law School has been instrumental in developing new research in diverse subject disciplines including:

We offer opportunities to study by research for the degree of LLM, MPhil or PhD on a full or part-time basis. We also offer the opportunity for LPC and BPTC graduates to boost their current qualification to master’s level with our Top-Up LLM, which is available on a part-time, accelerated or distance learning basis.
Developing Legal Skills
We give our students every opportunity to develop their legal skills in areas such as mooting and advocacy. Our postgraduate students regularly partake in national and international competitions in mooting, advocacy and client interviewing seeing tremendous success in recent years.
Our Pro Bono schemes provide students with opportunities to apply their legal knowledge in a real life environment. Working with a range of professional partners, students are able to volunteer their services for initiatives across a whole spectrum of legal work and will be able to develop a wide variety of legal skills.
Manchester Law School students benefit from exceptional facilities, with the additional advantage of being adjoined to our state-of-the-art Business School and Student Hub. Facilities include highly equipped lecture theatres, seminar rooms, technology suites and private study areas. These facilities are supported by our extensive virtual learning environment and our mock courtroom where students can practice their mooting and advocacy skills in a realistic legal environment.
Our postgraduate law students also benefit from specialist facilities to help support their enhanced study. Students studying the BPTC have access to a fully equipped Chambers Library and specialist Chambers Rooms, which prepare them for their future lives in practice. Our LPC students have access to a private study area and IT suite where they will be able to access the latest texts and references. All students benefit from an on-hand IT suite within the Law School and an extensive legal library.
