About Sophie White
Sophie is a freelance writer, editor and proofreader with a background in education. She has years of experience working with young people in Further Education and helping them to improve their CVs and complete job applications. She also works for an academic journal publisher, so has a wealth of experience in academic writing.
Sophie’s fascination with language started at a young age; she began French lessons when at 5 years old and was always a voracious reader, even as a child. She also later picked up Spanish and found that learning foreign languages massively improved her understanding and use of English. She grew to love the rules of language, and the exceptions! She then went on to study French and Hispanic Studies at university and her joy for the written word grew.
After graduating, Sophie qualified as a teacher and spent five years teaching English and maths at a large Further Education college. She then decided to follow her heart and move to North Wales, where she worked in administrative roles. She loved working on texts and improving them, as well as researching punctuation marks and vocabulary. She always said that she wished she could just be paid to read. Then, what she wanted to be when she grew up became glaringly obvious: an editor.
So, she retrained and the rest is history. Now she does get paid to read!
