Interview Process

"I completed an online application form and psychometric test. This was followed by a full day of interviews, presentation, competency interview, written assessment, negotiation and partner interview - it's quite full on! Doesn't really feel like it on the day though as everyone puts you at ease."
Second year trainee, london
"The interview process included an online application, online psychometric tests, an assessment centre with HR, competency interview, written exercise, presentation, group exercise, partner interview."
First year trainee, London
"For the interview process you can expect an online application form, online verbal reasoning tests, HR interview, written task and presentation to HR, lunch (after which some candidates were sent home!), group exercise, and partner interview. This sounds like a lot but everyone was friendly and put us at ease throughout."
First year trainee, London
"An application form, a verbal reasoning test, a competency based interview, a presentation, a written exercise, a group exercise and a partner interview."
Second year trainee, London
"The interview is hard because it is competitive and the process is thorough: online situational analysis and verbal reasoning then an assessment day with group exercise, individual presentation, associate and partner interview."
First year trainee, London
"Thorough interview process for the vacation scheme: online application; online test; graduate recruitment interview; one hour written exercise; two week vacation scheme; group presentation; group task assessment; and final partner interview."
First year trainee, London
"To get a vacation scheme I had to complete an online application (comprising of set questions and a verbal reasoning test). I then had to attend an interview with a member of graduate recruitment and I had to undertake a written exercise. At the end of the vacation scheme, I then had a partner interview and undertook a group exercise."

"Still seems like quite a difficult process to get a job in the firm - I was hired in the depths of the recession when there were fewer posts. There are more now, but it is still a tough selection process. The quality of candidates coming through it gets better every year."

"Online test, online application, full day assessment centre with HR interview, partner interview, written exercise, presentation and group exercise."
Second year trainee, London
"Full day assessment centre, which is tough, but at least gives a more rounded process, rather than just an hour's interview which seems more hit & miss."
Second year trainee, CMS Cameron McKenna
"One day process. Morning: written exercise (don't expect to finish), ten minute presentation and competency interview with HR. Lunchtime: sit nervously and get told whether or not you have made it to the afternoon. Afternoon: fly through group exercise and partner interview (more of a chat) on the adrenaline of succeeding at the first stage. Evening: get the call- if you're lucky!"
First year trainee, Bucharest
"Very efficient - both rounds of the assessment centre were completed on the same day and I heard back within a matter of hours. Questions were largely competency-based with some more general/commercial-based questions."
Second year trainee, London
"Challenging questions about CV and reasons for applying to the firm. Business and team exercises that were technically quite challenging."
First year trainee, London
"An online competency questionnaire accompanies the application; this is followed by an assessment day that is well structured and seems fuller and more robust than at other firms. There is a morning and afternoon session, with only successful applicants from the morning being kept for the final partner interviews in the afternoon. Questions range from standard competency based questions, to commercial interests, and general personal questions to gauge you as an individual."
Second year trainee, London
"Verbal reasoning assessment test - must reach pass mark. Interview for vacation scheme or training contract assessment day (where half get sent home at lunch time). Interview days involve teamwork exercises, written exercises, presentation and partner or HR competency based question interview."
First year trainee, london
"Interview process was challenging and more demanding than other firms with both a morning and afternoon session, questions were based on my choices, background, reasons for law and commercial firms, what I enjoy doing, etc. It was more a friendly chat in the first interview and more an interrogation and analytical interview in the second with a partner."
