Diversity

8.1 / 10

(based on 7 ratings in 2019)

2019

"We have so many female partners, a strong ethos of corporate social responsibility and a focus on diversity, with women's initiative programmes and other programmes set up to promote diversity."
First year trainee, London
"The office is fairly diverse for a City firm. Partners and associates seem genuinely committed to the diversity-related initiatives that they're involved with. I don't think the firm does much recruitment from non-top-tier unis, though."
First year trainee, London
"Some efforts are made and some individuals (including partners) are conscious of the pertinence and significance of progress."
Second year trainee, London
"Cooley is very committed to diversity in terms of women, but could definitely do more in terms of social mobility at partner level."
London
"Cooley is committed to all forms of diversity. It's a wonderful place to work."

2016

"The firm has been better at hiring in a number of women partners but male partners are still overwhelmingly in the majority. The firm has affinity groups for diverse lawyers but I don’t think it’s operational for the LGBT community in the London office yet. Cooley in the US seems very committed to diversity, but I don't think this has translated to the London office quite yet. Some programmes are in place but this will probably need to be expanded on as Cooley grows."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm is praised for its women's initiatives and we participate in a lot of events on the topic. I do believe it is committed to having more diverse hiring practices."
First year trainee, London
"The firm is making efforts and it is high on the priority list but I don't think they have a real solution to a quite complicated problem. There are more female partners now, so this is a definite plus."
Second year trainee, London
"The firm is quite proactive in its approach to diversity and has increased the number of female partners greatly since coming to London. It has also enhanced its recruitment process to encourage diversity by being more impartial."

2015

"The legacy firm only had one female partner but Cooley has already hired 3 more female partners, expressed a dedication towards improving these numbers and has a women's group that is working on a number of initiatives. We also have an ethnic minorities group within the firm, and hold a number of events throughout the year. This is through the Pathways to Law programme: this coaches and encourages talented A-level students who will be the first generation in their family to attend university to apply to study law at top universities, and provides quality work placements in city firms."
First year trainee, London
"Cooley has various diversity initiatives, such as the diversity committee and women's initiative. It is also active in diversity recruitment events. It is still early days for Cooley in the UK, however, I do not think there are enough women in senior roles and whilst a few female partners work flexibly, this does not seem to be the case for associates."
Second year trainee, London
"I think our firm is really at the forefront of diversity initiatives both in the US and here in the UK."
Second year trainee, London
