Osborne Clarke is an award-winning multinational law firm.

Who We Are

We’ve grown rapidly, with 25 offices around the world and we’re proud to say that our influence and impact can now be applied almost anywhere. The core sectors we work in all thrive on innovation; digital business, energy, financial services, life sciences, real estate, recruitment and transport. Our sector teams include lawyers from all legal disciplines, effortlessly blending expertise, insight and enthusiasm. Crucially, we think sector-first, organising ourselves around the current affairs and future challenges of the industries we serve, rather than traditional legal practice areas. It helps keep us one step ahead.

Of course, like any private practice, legal expertise is at the heart of everything we do. But what makes us distinctive? For a start, you can expect to get involved in truly fascinating work. The variety of our deals and the diversity of our clients provide an exciting and immersive commercial framework. This is a firm where fresh ideas (and the confidence and conviction to see them through) are highly prized, and we’re never afraid to take a view. It is also firm with a coherent commercial vision, with a clear direction, supported by a compelling sense of purpose and identity. Put simply, we’re going places. And you can put our positive, can-do attitude down to sustained success, in terms of both profile and performance.

Our high profile clients expect us to be brilliant, whether we are corporate, commercial or litigation lawyers, so we put a lot of effort into helping our people be the best they can throughout their careers – not just at the start of it. We foster the brightest and the best, with class-leading training and development programmes, and a unique climate of learning and discovery for everyone. We place value on individuals and respect their needs, motivations and choices. Our workplaces are designed to promote collaboration, often featuring open plan structures that make it easy to fit-in, mix and get involved. You’ll also find flexible and imaginative approaches to everyone’s work/life needs, with a connected infrastructure that is adaptive and tailored to bringing out the best in people.

Assessment Centre Pathway - Osborne Clarke

Osborne Clarke is a successful law firm with a global footprint and a clear strategic vision, working alongside interesting clients on their most vital matters. We are a firm that never stands still, that cares about its people, and invests in the future.

To help ensure that candidates from any background can perform to the best of their abilities we have chosen to support the Pathway focussed on assessment centres. Assessment centres are designed to get to know candidates and the skills that they can bring to an organisation, so helping individuals understand how they can best prepare and show an employer their full potential will help them to ensure that they are successful.

You will leave this course with a strong grounding in the various ways you can prepare for an assessment centre, so you can give yourself the best chance of success on the day.

Culture, diversity and CSR

At Osborne Clarke, Diversity & Inclusion, CSR and ESG go right to the heart of our culture and who we are as a firm. Because taking care of our people, our communities and the world at large is not only simply the right thing to do, it’s fundamental to all our futures. For the success of the firm, the well-being of our employees and the impact we have on the planet.

Diversity is one of the most highly prized attributes of Osborne Clarke. But knowing that a diverse workplace doesn’t necessarily mean an inclusive one, we’re committed to uncovering our blind spots and making sure everyone enjoys the same opportunities regardless of who they are, who they love or where they come from. Through our internal networks (REACH, Pride, Gender, Age, Mind and Body, and Social Diversity) and alongside our partnerships with external organisations such as Stonewall and Rare we aim to highlight and address inequalities and ensure Osborne Clarke is a workplace that works for everybody.

The OC networks are part of a broader set of aims and activities which are captured in three pillars, under our over-arching OC for Good initiative. Being a Good Employer is the first pillar, encompassing – among other things – our D&I objectives. Being a Good Corporate Citizen the second, while the third focuses on doing Good Business. Within each of these areas there are countless initiatives and projects with fantastic opportunities for you to get involved with the issues lying closest to your heart. Have other ideas about what we could be doing? We’ll want to hear them. Because within this rapidly evolving space there’s always going to be ways to do things better.

What we look for

We look for effective communicators who think commercially and practically; people who can solve problems creatively, build effective relationships and demonstrate real initiative. Foreign language skills are also an advantage.

Training environment

We group all of our trainee training and development into one coherent programme, which can be tailored to your individual needs. You’ll receive on the job training, dedicated technical workshops, IT and compliance training and personal development workshops. Throughout your training contract, we want you to experience the broad range of work available. As a trainee, you’ll complete four seats: Corporate or banking, real estate or tax, litigation, and one other. In each seat, a senior lawyer will supervise your day-to-day progress, providing regular feedback. They’re here to help you up your game. Every three months, you’ll have a formal progress review to help you track your development. Our trainees get lots of responsibility. And they find that it’s what really differentiates their training contracts from others.

Vacation schemes

Each of our vacation scheme placements runs for two weeks over the summer and offers a great opportunity for candidates to really get to know us. The placement follows a structured programme which allows candidates to spend time in two different departments and get involved in real client work, plus plenty of social events, too.

Insight schemes

Our two-day Insight Scheme for first-year law and second-year non-law students is designed to give you an insight into life as a lawyer at Osborne Clarke. As part of the placement we’ll also equip you with the tools you need to apply for a place on our vacation scheme.
