"The firm is not overly hierarchical (the open-plan agile workplace definitely helps with this). There is a good culture of getting trainees involved and social events are excellent."
First year trainee, Glasgow
"Everyone is very approachable and all partners are very friendly. Everyone in the team is treated equally and valued for their contribution (whether they are trainees, PAs or a partner). There is a real team feel among trainees and it does not feel very competitive between us. There are frequent socials within teams as well as ones for trainees and paralegals."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"The firm is a very friendly place to work. The open-plan office environment ensures that everyone has the chance to interact, regardless of seniority. Outside of work there are numerous social events organised and each team maintains a generous budget for organising activities within their group."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"It's very open and partners are genuinely approachable and supportive. There are many opportunities to grow both as a person and professionally handed to you on a plate and you are encouraged to get involved as much as possible. Every voice is heard from the most junior to the most senior."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"It's a friendly and open culture that's very open to new ideas and ways of working. There are lots of opportunities to socialise but also no pressure to do so after hours when family and other commitments make that difficult. There's good teamwork but the firm is also willing to look at improvements (eg new initiatives for breakfast networking) to bring different colleagues together."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"It is honestly so much more inclusive, friendly and encouraging than I ever imagined an international law firm being. We all sit in an open-plan office so the hierarchy doesn't feel too strict and its flexible around any commitments people have in their personal life. There's also lots of out-of-hours events, which are always great fun."
First year trainee, Belfast

"Partners are open and approachable and the firm doesn't seem too hierarchical. We have a strong commitment to flexible and agile working, which helps us keep a good work/life balance. Teams are supportive and collaboration is encouraged. There are also good social opportunities."
First year trainee, Manchester
"The firm is incredibly friendly. Everyone is available to chat to and happy to answer questions. Being in an open-plan office certainly helps you to meet a variety of people from different departments and the atmosphere is (generally) always calm and happy. Coming to work is never a chore!"
First year trainee, Birmingham
"People at every level of the firm's hierarchy are approachable and team-orientated. I have never been made to feel inferior due to being a trainee and have never hesitated about approaching senior colleagues. Work does not cascade through a hierarchy from partner to trainee, but rather is delegated directly by everyone to anyone. People are genuinely supportive and fun to work with and people display their appreciation and gratitude when you do have to work particularly late. Outside of work, there is a good amount of socialising, particularly within teams, which I think is good for office cohesion."
First year trainee, London
"The firm has an excellent culture. The working environment is inclusive with a focus on being approachable."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"Most of the people in the firm are really great and there isn't a feeling of hierarchy as everyone works together as needed. I have worked directly with a number of partners as well as for associates and senior associates in larger teams. I have seen a number of partners who take a genuine interest in the development of trainees and juniors and really go out of their way to help you and pass on their knowledge. We socialise outside of work quite a lot (though this varies between teams) and we have monthly office-wide social events."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"This can vary massively between departments but, for the most part, the teams are quite friendly. Some are happy to have a chat during the working day and everyone offers to do the rounds for the tea/coffee orders at some point whether they're a PA or a partner. There's a huge amount of collaboration in some of the teams and people are fairly professional on a day-to-day basis. There's a real difference during socials where everyone lets their hair down a little. The team I am currently sat in is great for out-of-office drinks and events and has made me feel included, which has been awesome. The trainees are also pretty good at being sociable and there are usually a few people up for a drink come Friday."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"The open-plan office allows for greater integration and access to seniors. As with anything, this is variable but generally I have been able to form a strong internal network and enjoy socialising with colleagues on Friday evenings."
Second year trainee, London
"The culture is fantastic. Colleagues of all levels are approachable and there is no hierarchical feel. The firm is family-orientated and tries its best to be as flexible as possible to help its staff get the best out of their work and family life."
First year trainee, Manchester

"It's a very social place to work, both in the office and out. Team drinks are relatively regular and colleagues take an interest in your life outside of work. There are also lots of trainee-organised events."
First year trainee, London
"In terms of hierarchy, the partners and other members of staff are extremely approachable and there is a good culture of taking lunch and catching up with colleagues. There are a lot of opportunities to socialise, with regular events organised by the office social committees. The trainees and junior members of staff also organise nights out among ourselves on a fairly regular basis."
First year trainee, Edinburgh
"I think the culture is one of the strong points of the firm. Most people are approachable, friendly and are willing to help. There is a strong impression that everyone is pulling in the same direction and has bought into what we are trying to achieve as a firm. The hierarchy is quite flat because of the open-plan nature of the offices. Floors tend to be quite chatty and people are generally open to going to get coffees and drinks to catch up. There is a broad range of activities out of hours that are generally good and well attended."
Second year trainee, London
"There's a great atmosphere among trainees and junior lawyers as well as approachable and sociable senior colleagues."
Second year trainee, Glasgow
"I appreciate that there may be teams that are not as transparent as mine but, in general, I find that the teams are friendly, open and willing to improve. For example, the entire trainee training system in my team has been revamped on the back of trainee feedback. It's widely felt that the people in charge will listen and make changes if you're unhappy. We have some really great socials at the firm from the crazy Christmas, Easter and Summer parties to playing ping pong in the cafeteria."
Second year trainee, London
"The effort Pinsent Masons puts into making all of its staff feel welcome and included is fantastic. There are open-plan offices, a large sports budget and upwards reviews, which help to make the firm an incredible place to work."
First year trainee, Leeds
"The firm's culture is outstanding and has lived up to my expectations. I chose to apply for a training contract with Pinsent Masons and to join the firm because of its culture. Everybody I have come across in the office has been friendly and welcoming. We often have office drinks, team socials and trainee socials at the firm. We also had a sports day in July but our most renowned event is our Christmas party, which is always fancy dress. Last year the theme was decades and each floor was given a different decade, the winning team was our projects, infrastructure and concessions department, which went as different Mario characters."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"There is no sense of hierarchy and everyone is approachable. There is also a good social environment outside of work."
Second year trainee, Belfast

"There was a friendly atmosphere but at the same time, clearly everyone was working hard. It was a good balance. There were also lots of social events which meant you got to know staff and fellow interns."
