Future Female Engineers

Meet some of the brightest engineers and find out how you can follow in their footsteps

The day of Future Female Engineers

The event started off with a presentation on personal branding by Kate, our careers coach. Shortly afterwards, we had the chance to talk to representatives about their company culture, projects and application tips over lunch. These informal discussions gave me a better insight into the company that I was looking to join, which helped when writing a compelling covering letter. We then adjourned to the meeting room to participate in a team challenge. The imposed time constraint meant that we had to delegate tasks effectively and work as a team, skills which are vital in engineering. Next on the agenda was the skills session. I learned a lot about what the recruiters are looking for in a CV and how to prepare for an interview. Throughout the day, I also gained many new contacts and kept in touch with them on LinkedIn.

After the event

Following the event, I submitted my CV and covering letter to AECOM. I was then called for an interview and subsequently received an offer of a summer placement. All in all, I would strongly recommend this event to students who are interested in a career in engineering. It has been an incredibly beneficial experience.
