The Position
Mission Statement:
The role holder will develop Academic and Vocational training in Electrical/ Electronic/ Mechanical Engineering. Working with the TS teams to provide on site support to a wide range of Roche Diagnostics products, to deliver world class professional service This will include (but not be limited to), installations, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, modifications & de-installations.
About the apprenticeship:
Year one
You will attend a local college, learning the fundamentals of engineering and focusing on the necessary skills to prepare you for the role. Outside of term time you will start to shadow our highly-skilled engineers on field visits to customers’ laboratories in your local region. These activities will be coordinated by an assigned apprentice mentor.
Year two
You will start to put your understanding into practice. For four days a week you will shadow our engineers, assisting them with field visits in your local region. You will learn many skills, such as diagnosing faults with the equipment and implementing solutions. You will also get the opportunity to visit our head office and state-of-the-art training facilities in Sussex. One day a week will be spent back at your local college, working towards your qualifications.
Year three and four
You will continue to attend college one day a week, completing your studies. For the remainder of the week you will be on rotation within the field, understanding new diagnostic tests, consolidating your learning and gaining more responsibilities along the way. Following a successful apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent position within our expert engineering team, where a suitable role is available.
We are currently recruiting for the following 4 locations: West Sussex, East London, Sheffield/Doncaster, Leicester.
Key Responsibilities:
• Continuously learn and develop technical skills and knowledge
• Complete and pass all required work for college in order to gain qualification/accreditation
• Providing technical or scientific support to internal & external customers with supervision
• Provide on site support activities if necessary
• Ensure safety standards are met and carried out in accordance with HS-01-04 (Health and Safety Manual)
• Be aware of IT security and governance with specific reference to patient identifiable data (PID) and to operate in line with local information security standards
• Perform role and associated service activities professionally and in line with company expectations
Key Activities:
Technical/Scientific Expertise:
• Continuously applying learned skills and learning on the job and in training
• Applying academic knowledge/skills under supervision, and understanding when to escalate
• Transferring theory and classroom learning into practice
Client Relationship:
• Working closely with colleagues and representing Roche professionally at all times
• Demonstrating Roche values in every interaction
• Shadowing and learning from colleagues
• Building relationships with customers by gaining understanding of their needs and expectations
Commercial/Service Support:
• Forming relationships and understanding of wider Business, understanding key relationships and roles across the organization
Information and knowledge transfer:
• Reviewing GRIPS to maintain knowledge and awareness of product updates and sharing with teams
• Understanding when and who to contact for additional support
• Utilizing skills and knowledge gained in classroom and on the job
Operational Effectiveness:
• Appropriate and timely documentation using CRM system and other administration accordance with local guidelines, sharing best practice approaches Performance and KPIs
• Awareness of KPIs and how to impact/contribute Continual Development
• Advocate/Ambassador for the Roche apprenticeship scheme
Decision Making Authority:

Qualifications:
Appropriate A Level or Btec equivalent. Must also have 5 GCSEs at grade A-C, including Maths & English.
Experience:
Desirable but not essential:
• Troubleshooting experience
• Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and web delivery tools
• Understanding of the Diagnostics industry and familiar with working in a multicultural environment
Skills/Knowledge:
Demonstrate Communication Skills:
• Troubleshooting experience including excellent attention to detail
• Prioritisation skills and can simplify work for self and others whilst delivering documentation quality
• Enthused by challenging technologies (robotics, electrical engineering, fluidics and medical issues)
• Resilience and ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.
• Must have a valid driving license or provide evidence of working toward taking the test.
