Who are we.

RAF Regiment protect and defend RAF platforms, RAF installations and the people who operate them, to enable the unrestricted delivery of Air and Space power.

As an RAF Regiment Gunner, you will specialise in combat tactics, weaponry, fieldcraft and force protection. You will be part of a highly trained team carrying out a range of crucial duties to defend RAF bases and overseas air operations.

What will you do?

You’ll be responsible for providing force protection to enable and support air operations and contributing to defence of airfields in the UK and overseas. In your role you will:

Ground Combat (CRF) . The RAF Regiment has six front-line regular squadrons and are brigaded within the C&RF. Each squadron is highly configurable to operate from small Section teams to full Squadron deployments, with its own organic surveillance, manoeuvre, and fire support capabilities.

FP Command and Control . RAF Regiment FP Wg is optimised to coordinate, integrate, and sustain force protection activities in support of Air Operations globally.

Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) . The RAF Regiment is the lead organisation within UK Defence. providing the only dedicated Fixed Site C-UAS capability for UK Defence.

Air Land Integration (ALI) . RAF Regiment provides a substantial proportion of TACP capability for Army and RM; plus, all the JTAC requirement for other agencies.

Support to various Special Forces units.

Ceremonial . The RAF Regiment undertakes the majority of RAF state ceremonial taskings though the King’s Colour Squadron, as well as many other engagement opportunities. The King’s Colour Squadron is double rolled as 63 Sqn RAF Regt, which has both Ground Combat and Counter-UAS operational outputs.

Training . The RAF Regiment is also employed within Instructional roles, specifically within Force protection Training to all RAF personnel. Training is conducted across 30 RAF Stations, and front-line Units delivering training to all RAF personnel.

Salary

  • Pay during first 6 months - £18,600 + benefits.
  • Pay after completing basic Trg + Six months service. - £23,400

Minimum Education Requirements

No formal qualifications required.

You will undertake functional Skills (FS) Level 1 qualifications in English and Mathematics during your Phase 2 specialist training course.

Joining age; Be aged 16 – 47 (Must attest before 48th birthday) Applications can be submitted from age 15 years and 9 months.

Requirements

Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, holder of dual UK/other nationality or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth (with 'indefinite leave to remain’ immigration status)

Commit minimum 3 years post Phase Two Training

Meet the health and fitness criteria.

Pass the Defence Aptitude Assessment.

Pass a Fitness test. Applicants for the Regiment Gunner role will do both the Pre-Joining Fitness Test (PJFT) AND the Regt Fitness test on the Potential Gunner Selection Course (PGSC).

Level 2 Apprenticeship HM Forces Service Person

This occupation is found in the public sector only and specifically within HM Forces (Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force). The HM Forces is a large employer. The role is utilised by the ground troops of all three services, who could find their workplace to be UK based or on foreign soil, dependent on HM Government direction.
