Internship

£25,000 - £30,000

Ten weeks to discover what our business is about. That's one good thing.

At Capital One, we're on a mission: to change credit – one good thing at a time. You might think of us as a credit card company. But the truth is, we're just as much a technology business. And we're here to make a positive difference – to our customers, our colleagues and community.

One of the happy consequences of making finance easier for our customers is that Capital One is an inspiring place to launch your career. Join us, and you can expect early responsibility as you take on meaningful work in collaborative teams. We’ve got a great track record of hiring graduates and enabling them to reach their full potential. Just look at our CEO, Lucy Hagues. She started as a graduate and now leads the UK business. And that’s just one of many success stories.

We are committed to creating teams that are representative of our customers and the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and would particularly love to hear from you if you identify with an under-represented group in our industry, such as women, the LGBTQ+ community and ethnic minority candidates.

Strategy Analysts at Capital One

Our Strategy teams are fundamental in how we drive the business forward, but most importantly, how we work with our customers. We do this by using insightful data analysis and critical judgement skills to solve problems.

On this ten-week programme, you’ll be based within one of our core Strategy teams and from Day 1 you’ll take a bird’s eye view of our organisation whilst owning a real-life business project. You will help identify new ways to improve every aspect of what we do and put forward your suggestions on how we can achieve this by the end of your internship. Great training and support from the team around you will be provided to ensure you have all the tools required for success!

You will be within one of our core Strategy teams and the work could range from developing the right products that meet our customers' needs, to finding innovative ways to attracting new customers, providing support and tools to help our customers manage their finances or protecting them from fraud. Alongside this, you will also be trained and developed on some coding and analytical tools - enabling you to really dig deep into the datasets.

And this internship isn’t just about honing your technical skills. There's plenty of scope for personal development too. You'll be assigned a manager, mentor and buddy to support and advise you along the way.

What you’ll need

We don’t mind what degree background you have, but we want to see your ability to identify solutions or opportunities using data and sound reasoning.

You will have a strong aptitude for maths, and can apply problem solving and creative thinking to come up with suitable recommendations.

You aren’t afraid to share your ideas and are regularly proactive and a self-starter.

You’ll have strong written and verbal communication skills and above all, someone who thrives in a collaborative environment which means working well with others, whilst also being focused on growth and development – yours and ours.

The Recruitment Process

To ensure an accessible process, every stage will be conducted virtually. You'll also have a dedicated recruiter to support you throughout and answer any questions you might have.

  • Step 1: After your initial application, if you meet the eligibility criteria you will be sent out online testing to complete, which consists of a situational and strengths, and a numerical and verbal reasoning assessment.
  • Step 2: Next up, you will be invited to complete a one-way video interview.
  • Step 3: You’ll get to (virtually) meet with one of our Strategy Analysts to complete a case study interview.
  • Step 4: The assessment day, which consists of a group activity, case study and individual interview, and if successful we’ll offer you a place on the programme!

What’s in it for you?

  • Exciting (and diverse) opportunities for career development
  • Outstanding learning and development through our Capital One Develop UK training programmes (and appropriate external providers)
  • Core benefits including a pension scheme, bonus, generous holidays and private medical insurance
  • Adaptable benefits including season-ticket loans, cycle to work scheme and enhanced parental leave
  • Open-plan workspaces and accessible facilities designed to support and inspire you, including a fully serviced gym, subsidised restaurant, mindfulness and games rooms
  • Plenty of volunteering opportunities to give back to the community through our corporate social responsibility programmes
  • Regular social events ran by our GradComm team, as well as an annual company-wide summer festival

How you'll work

This is a 10-week fixed term position and based in our Nottingham office.

We have a hybrid working model, so you’ll be based in our office 3 days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and can work from home on Monday and Friday. Many of our associates have adaptable working arrangements, and we’re open to talking about an arrangement that works for you.

What you should know about how we recruit

We pride ourselves on hiring the best people, not the same people. Building diverse and inclusive teams is the right (and the smart) thing to do. We want to work with top talent: whoever you are, whatever you look like, wherever you come from. We know it’s about what you do, not just what you say. That’s why we make our recruitment process fair and accessible.

We also partner with organisations including the Women in Finance and Race at Work Charters, Stonewall and upReach to find people from every walk of life and help them thrive with us. We have a whole host of internal networks and support groups you could be involved in, to name a few:

  • REACH – Race Equality and Culture Heritage group focuses on representation, retention and engagement for associates from minority ethnic groups and allies
  • OutFront – to provide LGBTQ+ support for all associates
  • Mind Your Mind – signposting support and promoting positive mental wellbeing for all
  • Women in Tech – promoting an inclusive environment in tech
  • EmpowHER - network of female associates and allies focusing on developing future leaders, particularly for female talent in our industry
  • Enabled - dedicated group for disability and neurodiversity, to improve the working life of all associates
  • GreenTeam - Passionate about sustainability, on a mission to help Capital One UK improve its environmental impacts
