in a variety of subject areas, including MA, MSc, MBA, PGCE/PGDE, PGDip, and PGCert courses. Programmes are delivered through three faculties: Education; Arts & Sciences; and Health, Social Care and Medicine.
Teaching is of the highest quality found in the UK (TEF Gold, 2017) and internationally (Global Teaching Excellence Spotlight Award, 2018), taught by lecturers who are approachable and passionate about the subject they teach. Many are research-active working on projects of global cultural, social and scientific significance, offering valuable industry experience to further academic and personal development.
Students are encouraged to develop their knowledge through lectures, seminars, group work and fieldwork. There is an emphasis on practical learning on all courses, giving students the chance to develop their technical skills and apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world problems.
Research Degrees
Edge Hill has invested heavily in creating a dynamic learning environment where research makes a real impact in transforming people’s lives. Their research strategy is committed to producing insights that make a positive contribution to society, culture and the economy. Performing strongly in the Research Excellence Framework (REF, 2014), all subject areas featured ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world leading’ research.
The University offers three routes into a : MRes (Masters by Research), PhD (Doctor of Philosophy), and Professional Doctorate. Programmes are tailored to maximise employability, with 100% of postgraduate research students entering employment or further education within 6 months of graduating (PRES, 2018). On successful completion of a research degree, graduates will be equipped with the specialist skills and knowledge to cope with the demands of research to succeed in their field or academic career.
To help postgraduate students prepare for doctoral level study, the university offers a Postgraduate Certificate in Research, which students study before commencing their PhD. This standalone qualification provides students with an opportunity to develop their research project.
