"There is a very friendly and welcoming culture within Gist so you will always be able to have a laugh with your colleagues and get support where needed from any department. Different sites socialise in different ways but there are always people on site who are willing to socialise in and out of work, making it a fun and enjoyable atmosphere."

"There are different departments within Gist. I work within the head office so have a lot of opportunities to see other areas of the business and talk to senior management etc. There is a hierarchy but it is not one in which you would feel uncomfortable talking to senior management or directors. It's a very friendly environment with a lot of support so about five people will offer to assist if you ever need to ask for help. You are given a buddy (someone on your level to help you through the process) and a mentor to guide you in your development. There is also a very social side to the organisation if you want to get involved."

"There is a strong culture of support and teamwork at Gist with a strong graduate scheme bringing plenty of younger members in to socialise with."

"We have lots of fun outside of work with a number of my colleagues having become close friends. There is a great team spirit in the depot that goes well with the good sense of competition."

"There's a strong team feel in the depot. It can be hard to routinely socialise outside of work due to operational responsibilities, though we try whenever possible."

"There's a people-focused culture and the company focuses on trying to treat people in the right way. It can be challenging to get some members of staff to cooperate and work with you, especially on the shop-floor level (in particular in the warehouse). I socialise fairly often with the people I work with."

"It's a 24-hour operation with shift work. There's little socialising among colleagues outside of work but a very strong people-ethos and a dedicated team. The people who you work alongside make the company."
Mid level, Stone
"There are a lot of small teams within departments and they all have a largely flat hierarchy. This is especially true at head office down in Basingstoke, which means that climbing up the corporate ladder can be daunting. The culture is very welcoming and the company values every new employee as well as those who have been around for a while. It honours those who have been around with awards and welcomes new graduates in a similar fashion (a central induction held at a nice hotel in Basingstoke). However, it doesn't have a very big social culture as a whole. This does differ from location to location and it tends to be more sociable in depots than the offices. Teamwork is a big thing (most of the time) although I think this depends on who the managers are."
