"Promotion at Newton is based entirely on merit. We have appraisals every few months in which we're given feedback on what we're doing well and what we could benefit from developing. Newton is a constantly growing company so it is expected that most people will rise through the ranks fairly quickly, especially given the intense focus on personal and professional development. Although the guidelines for consultant promotions are a little more transparent than those in the head-office roles, I still feel confident in my understanding of what I need to do in order to progress and know who to speak with if I'm ever unsure."

"Newton's promotion criteria are some of the most transparent I am aware of. Everyone sits on a curve and, over time, moves up in the company as a result of the continuous development encouraged among all employees. The criteria to move between ranks are robust and extensive so that one can easily identify what is required to bridge gaps between your current rank and the next one. Conversations on the process of moving you up the ranks start early as our continual growth creates a constant demand for more senior team members to manage the growing company. As a result, one is never waiting to fill dead men's shoes."

"The promotion to grade two from a graduate level happens at around 18 months and, from then on, promotions are applied for based on being able to demonstrate the required capabilities. The promotion criteria is fairly well defined and lots of support is available from development managers to understand how these relate to your career."

Promotions are awarded on merit alone and there is not a set number of people at each level so you do not need to wait for a space. If you are ready then you will get the promotion."
