Hi! My name is Chloe and I attended the IT's Not Just for the Boys! event in October 2019.
I study computing for digital media at the University of Sussex.
I found out about this event through signing up to TARGETjobs at my university jobs fair. Applying for the event was such a great choice – I believe you should put yourself out there and take as many opportunities as you can.
The process was so easy and quick, so you've got no excuse not to apply! I only had to complete an online registration form and have a quick phone call with the TARGETjobs events team.
During the day, you get to network with fellow students, company representatives and graduates who work for these companies. I found it particularly useful speaking to the graduates; their experiences and opinions on the role help you to decide what companies and jobs you want to apply for. Further, they can tell you what the application process is like and give you some handy tips!
I especially enjoyed the group exercise, where we had to discuss and present a solution to a technological problem. I was lucky enough be nominated by Orbium to win an Amazon Echo for my contributions throughout the day as well!
I decided to apply to Morgan Stanley’s Spring Week – a week-long placement with the company – after talking with a representative at the event. The group exercise really helped me practise for a similar discussion exercise at the assessment centre I carried out for Morgan Stanley. I also talked about my time at IT's not just for the boys during my interview with them. After the Spring Week, I was offered an application development industrial placement, starting in 2020.
