I first came across the IT’s not just for the boys! event when I was browsing through TARGETjobs’ website. The entire idea of the event, which is to provide a supportive environment for women to empower one another especially within the tech industry, was one that really attracted me to apply for it. Being in the first year of university, I never expected to secure a spot as I was fairly new to the tech scene, but you will never know until you give it a shot!
The event was very insightful as I got to hear inspiring women from Bloomberg, KPMG, FactSet, BNY Mellon and the Royal Air Force speak about their respective work and experiences. Fortunately, during the networking session, I was able to gain further insights from a Bloomberg recruiter about its application process, company culture and current opportunities at the company. This was when I first heard about the Bloomberg Women in Tech (BWIT) Insight Week.
After the event, I knew that I wanted to get to know more about Bloomberg as a company. Hence, without further hesitation, I applied for the BWIT Insight Week and successfully managed to secure a spot as one of its spring interns. I can’t help but feel thankful for IT’s not just for the boys! in providing me with the platform to build meaningful connections and discover opportunities I wouldn’t have known about.
The biggest takeaway from this would be to seize every opportunity that’s presented to you. With that said, my advice is to apply! Taking the first step is the hardest but things will happen naturally after. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get to know other individuals because a little effort goes a long way. The potential of growing these connections is in your hands!
