Role Overview
Amazon is seeking a Software Development Engineer intern to create technology that solves customer problems at global scale. The role offers ownership of code from design and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation, supported by experienced engineers, a manager and a mentor.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with cross-disciplinary teams to design, build and operate customer-focused products and services.
- Break complex or ambiguous problems into clearly defined technical components.
- Develop scalable, reliable services and contribute to distributed systems where relevant.
- Take part in code reviews, technical discussions and documentation.
- Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly, validating generated code before integration.
- Write maintainable code, apply recognised design patterns and work within CI/CD practices.
- Monitor services, troubleshoot production issues and contribute to operational support.
Internship Experience
This is a full-time, office-based internship of up to 40 hours per week, normally Monday to Friday. Interns work on an impactful project, join learning and networking activities and may be considered for a graduate role or another internship after successful completion. Applicants must retain at least one academic term after the internship ends.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related subject.
- Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design, operating systems and complexity analysis.
- Experience with a general-purpose language such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust or TypeScript.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous technical internship experience.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, relational databases, cloud platforms, SQL or NoSQL, version control or open-source development.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with ambiguous problems.
