Apprentice/Graduate Site Manager

the role

The Apprentice Site Manager / Graduate Site Manager supports the site team in the daily running of construction projects. Working closely with experienced Site Managers and the wider construction team, the apprentice develops core skills in planning, coordination, and site safety. This is a learning role designed to build practical experience and technical knowledge while contributing to the safe and efficient operation of sites up to £15 million in value.

Core Duties

  • Assist with day-to-day site operations and site setup activities.
  • Support inductions, daily briefings, and toolbox talks.
  • Help monitor subcontractor attendance, progress, and quality.
  • Learn to review RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Assist with developing short-term programmes with guidance.
  • Monitor progress and help record delays or issues.
  • Help maintain construction drawings and specifications.
  • Support the Quality Assurance and snagging process.
  • Keep accurate notes in the Site Diary under supervision.
  • Assist in monitoring waste management on site.
  • Provide information for monthly progress reports.
  • Support close-out documentation at project completion.
  • Work alongside Quantity Surveyors on day works and variations.
  • Engage with and learn from subcontractors, consultants, and the design team.

Quality

  • Learn and support 'right first time' delivery.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate drawing records.
  • Support QA inspections and snagging activities.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Follow and promote site safety procedures.
  • Assist with safety inspections.
  • Report any hazards or concerns immediately.
  • Support waste management processes.
  • Promote wellbeing on site and escalate concerns where appropriate.

Programming

  • Learn how programmes are developed and monitored.
  • Assist in tracking progress against short-term plans.

Communication

  • Build positive relationships with clients, consultants, and neighbours.
  • Attend subcontractor meetings and assist with preparing minutes.
  • Take part in daily briefings and coordination tasks.

General skills and knowledge

(Developed through training)

  • Basic understanding of construction processes.
  • Willingness to learn JCT and NEC contract principles.
  • Developing skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good communication and organisational abilities.
  • Keen interest in Health & Safety.
  • Eagerness to take instruction and grow responsibility over time.

experience & qualifications

  • Apprentice Requirements: A-Levels / Level 3 qualifications (or working towards).
  • Graduate Requirements: Construction related degree, minimum grade 2:1 (or working towards).
  • Interest in a career in construction management.
  • CSCS card (or willingness to obtain).
  • Full UK driving licence (essential).
  • Minimum 6 months work experience (construction experience not essential)
