Graduate job
What if the work you did every day could impact the lives of people you know? Or all of humanity?
At Illumina, we are expanding access to genomic technology to realize health equity for billions of people around the world. Our efforts enable life-changing discoveries that are transforming human health through the early detection and diagnosis of diseases and new treatment options for patients.
Working at Illumina means being part of something bigger than yourself. Every person, in every role, has the opportunity to make a difference. Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.
Clinical Lab Technician, Hinxton and Great Abingdon
As a Clinical Lab Technician, you will be primarily based at our Hinxton site with some work at the Illumina Centre based in Great Abington. You will receive full training in all laboratory tasks, including Genotyping, Sequencing and Library Preparation, and collaboration on various projects.
Why us
The Clinical Lab Technician role is essential for the smooth operation of ILS's customer services. This position involves performing a variety of high-quality tests, including whole genome sequencing, DNA extraction, and proteomic assays, with some workflows accredited to ISO 15189 standards. Additionally, the technician will support development projects, such as whole transcriptome sequencing, to introduce new tests into the service environment.
Based in a laboratory setting, the technician will work as part of a team across two locations in Cambridge (Hinxton and Great Abingdon). The successful candidate will employ various techniques, including DNA quantification, DNA and RNA library preparation, DNA sequencing using the NovaSeq platform, and DNA extraction. While some processes are highly automated with Hamilton Star and Tecan Robots, others require manual bench-top assays. The team operates on a shift system over seven days (9 am to 5 pm).
