Programme description

Learn to detect cyber threats, secure systems, and protect data working with world-class cybersecurity experts and emerging technologies.

About the business area

Within our Group Chief Information Office (GCIO), our cybersecurity team designs, implements and operates control to manage risk. It defines our group cyber security standards, oversees the security of our network, applications and infrastructure, provides round-the-clock monitoring and security incident response services.

Who you are

We don’t expect you to be a Cyber Security expert already. What matters is your mindset. We're looking for people who are:

  • Analytical – You can break down complex problems, spot patterns, and make sense of data.

  • Curious and keen to learn – Cyber never stands still. You’re always ready to learn new tools and stay ahead of the curve with emerging technology.

  • Driven – You set goals and go after them.

  • Resilient – You stay calm under pressure, bounce back from challenges, and remain focused.

What you’ll do

You’ll join our workforce of 2,000+ global cyber specialists, working in a team that protects HSBC and our customers, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Whether you're learning how to run a threat simulation or supporting our response to real-time incidents, your role will be hands-on from day one. You’ll work with emerging tech, like AI and quantum computing, and learn how it’s reshaping cybersecurity.

Teams you could join include:

  • Offensive Security – find and fix vulnerabilities using offensive and defensive techniques like penetration testing and threat modelling.

  • Vulnerability Management – assess and report cybersecurity risks, helping us stay one step ahead.

  • Cryptography – protect data and secure online communications through encryption.

  • Data Security – work across everything from network security to risk reviews and consultancy.

What you’ll learn

This is a two-year programme, packed with real-world learning, live projects and on-the-job training. Alongside specialist support, you’ll have access to:

  • Cyber labs and technical platforms

  • Industry-recognised certifications

  • Development of your communication, collaboration, and networking skills

  • Global connections and peer learning
