Year in Industry Placement – Electrical Engineering

At Octavius Infrastructure, we believe in helping you be your best in the work you do. Our Year in Industry Placement is designed to give aspiring electrical engineers hands-on experience, exposure to real projects, and the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals.

Over 10–12 months, you'll apply what you've learned at university in a practical environment, developing valuable technical and professional skills that will help shape your future career.

The placement

This isn't just a placement. It's an opportunity to build the foundations for a successful career in engineering.

Working across both site and office-based environments, you'll support the delivery of electrical solutions for infrastructure projects that connect communities and improve transport networks. You'll contribute to the safe installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems while developing your communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Following the successful completion of your placement, there may be opportunities for sponsorship and the potential to join our Graduate Scheme after your studies.

What you'll do

During your placement, you'll:

  • Support project teams with the safe and efficient installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of electrical methodologies.
  • Gain practical experience through a combination of site and office-based activities.
  • Work alongside Site Managers, Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Engineering Managers.
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues, clients, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Bring fresh ideas, energy, and an inquisitive approach to our projects.
  • Develop your understanding of safety, quality, and the delivery of electrical engineering solutions.
  • Take part in activities that promote careers within construction and engineering to local communities.

What you'll get

You'll receive:

  • Hands-on experience working on real infrastructure projects.
  • Support, training, and mentoring from experienced professionals.
  • Opportunities to develop your technical, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • A day off for your birthday.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Flexible working options where the role and project allow.
  • Potential opportunities for future sponsorship and progression onto our Graduate Scheme.

You'll be:

  • Currently studying towards a degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a placement year included as part of your course.
  • Interested in developing a career within infrastructure, construction, or engineering.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and keen to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting.
  • A confident communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with others.
  • Inquisitive and motivated to take on new challenges and opportunities.
  • Passionate about problem-solving, safety, and quality.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment across both site and office settings.
  • Willing to travel and stay away from home when required to support our projects.
