Role description
Join our enthusiastic team and help to maintain and develop the wonderful gardens of Hillsborough Castle!
The grounds of Hillsborough have undergone major work to enhance the beauty and horticultural interest over the past 11 years, and have been fully open to the public for the past 7 years. The gardens are varied and include formal areas with ornamental planting and topiary, lawns and park land trees, herbaceous borders and a productive kitchen garden, woodland, lakes and meadows.
We have two temporary roles available in the team, including one for a horticulture student on placement. We have chosen to advertise these roles together.
Role 1: Seasonal Gardener
6 months over the summer.
Role 2: Gardener (student placement)
6 months over the summer.
We are inviting applications from students currently studying on a recognised horticulture course who require a placement as part of their studies. If you are a horticulture student looking for a placement, and have a positive, proactive and enthusiastic attitude, then this is the role for you.
The successful candidates will be supporting the rest of the Gardens and Estates team, taking on a variety of different tasks. Working in a small team and with a keen eye for detail you will have a passion for gardening and will be keen to work and/or gain experience working in prestigious gardens. You will have the opportunity to display and/or build on professional all-round knowledge of garden maintenance tasks and gain an understanding of what it means to provide a 5 Star service to our visitors.
You will be team-focused and competent in using a range of horticultural machinery, for example hedge trimmers, lawn-mowers and strimmers. Applicants must be able to provide the highest level of garden and estate maintenance whilst maintaining a safe, clean, and secure working environment.
Availability to work some weekend days and Bank holidays is essential.
How to Apply
Please apply online direct to HRP submitting your CV and Covering Letter. Your covering letter should state why you want to work at Hillsborough Castle Gardens, and what relevant skills you would bring to this role / the placement.
