Graduate job

A vacancy has arisen for a GIS Mapping Support Operator to join our Edinburgh based technical team and assist with the support and management of our corporate GIS. Our technical support team includes a wide range of technical skills across IT and mapping disciplines. The team has a well-established record of developing innovative solutions to support our forest management and associated work activities.

Working within a market-leading forest management company, this position offers a diverse and interesting environment, supporting forestry staff with forest planning and management projects. The position includes a requirement to support and train staff in the use of GIS and to assist with processing tasks, map creation, map updating and data management.

The successful candidate will be capable of working with colleagues on a diverse range of projects and should possess excellent communication skills and organisational ability. The position will require an understanding of GIS principals, with some experience in QGIS, ArcGIS or other relevant software applications. A basic understanding of forest management practice is desirable. Training will be provided in both GIS and forestry aspects of this position as necessary.

This position would ideally suit a recently qualified graduate, trained in a relevant subject area with a strong interest in the technical aspects of GIS and/or forestry and land management. Relevant experience will also be considered where applicants have no formal qualifications. As this role can involve occasional travel to remote locations, a current full driving licence is desirable. The role primarily involves technical support within the GIS environment but may also extend into other aspects of forestry support and IT in general. Knowledge or experience in these areas is desirable, but not essential.
